Title: Xenosaga:Der Wille zur Macht Official Strategy Guide by BradyGames

      Format: Hint Book

      Reviewing Monkey: Zimbu

      What This Monkey Thought...

Layout: This guide is pretty average, as far as layout goes, for an RPG guide. It starts with character information (a bio, tech attacks, spells and weapons) and stats on the various giant robots available throughout the game. Then it moves on to an enemy guide and a tutorial on the battle mechanics. The walkthrough section, the meat and potatoes of any RPG guide, is very useful. Full of stats for enemies in every level, screenshots of crucial sections, maps, and boss guides leave almost nothing to guesswork. My only complaint is that sometimes an important clue is shifted to a small box on the edge of a page, making it easy to accidentally skip over something. A second reading of the page is an easy way to counter this, though. 4.5 out of 5

Usefulness: With all the information it provides, this book can get you out of just about any jam you're in. It also makes sure that you don't miss even the smallest potion hidden in a dark corner or a destructible crate. Sometimes, though, the boss strategies are a little jumbled and unclear. This means you may occasionally be looking for an online FAQ when the guide is supposed to be all you need. 3.5 out of 5

Accuracy: This guide is almost entirely dependable. Items are where they should be, boss strategies work, and there doesn't seem to be any of the name errors in the enemy guide typical of so many BradyGames books. 5 out of 5

      The Verdict:

If you are going to buy Xenosaga, you need this book. Some of the major battles are pretty damned hard and you'll need all hidden items and strategies you can get.

The Good: Well-designed, tons of screenshots, dependable and accurate.

The Bad: Hard to notice hint boxes and some unspecific boss sections.

The Overall Ugly: Buying Xenosaga? Buy this book too.
