" here aren't a lot of games that are as fun to play and as cheap as Witch Hunt. "
Title: Witch Hunt by Alien Games
  Format: Party Card Game
  Reviewing Monkey: Prof. Bobo
The Hype: In the days of paranoia and disbelief people were branded as witches if they talked different, dressed different, or spoke out against their elders. These people were taken to a mock trial and hanged so that the villagers could keep their community safe. Witch Hunt recreates this time in history and pits you against your friends, desperately trying to hang your friends while keeping yourself safe.
  What This Monkey Thought...
Playability: Designed for three to five
people to start playing right away and the object of the game is to hang your
friend's villagers by branding them as witches while keeping your villagers
safe. There are two phases of play, the hunt phase where you are trying to lower
one of the villager's reputations so you can take one of them to trial (yes
you can have villagers with negative reputations). When one of the villagers
is cornered, someone calls a trial, and each player can only play ONE card to
either help their villagers or hinder others. The villager with the lowest reputation
is hanged and points are awarded. Play continues until there are only 4 villagers
(or 5 for a 5 player game) left and then points are tallied and the one with
the most points wins the game.
This is a definite
beer and pretzels game as you are trying to screw over your buddies while trying
to survive. It's fun and can get a little bit vicious at times (it also helps
if you talk in that old accent around the time of the Salem Witch Trials). 4
out of 5
Aesthetics: The card art is nothing spectacular (but then you aren't going to buy this game and expect Boris Vallejo to do the art now are you?). Forewarned, clip art is used on some of the cards, and while some people think that it's cheating I think it adds a certain flavor to the game and keeps the cost of the game down so it's affordable for everyone! 3 out of 5
Value vs. Cost: Speaking of cost, this game is cheap! At $7.95 you get 95 cards and 49 tokens to keep track of reputation and who is that nasty witch. There aren't a lot of games that are as fun to play and as cheap as Witch Hunt. 4 out of 5
  The Verdict:
The Good: A game that is affordable and fun to play
The Bad: Some of the card art could be better.
The Overall Ugly: Some of these villagers. Man! Didn't these people like brush their teeth?
What it's Worth: Hanging your friends by the neck until dead.. dead.. DEAD.
